Looking to breathe some new life into your home and give it an update this summer? From experimenting with the latest colour palettes to switching up the fabrics in your living room, here are some easy ways to transform your space.
1. Declutter, declutter, declutter
Before you even think about giving your home a complete overhaul, give your home a top to toe clean and get organised so you have a blank canvas to work with. That way, you’ll know exactly what you may like to experiment with in your home or what’s worth storing away until winter next year.
2. Summer materials
It’s time to ditch the heavy knits, velvets and faux fur throws and blankets from winter and look for more lightweight materials. Linens, cottons, bamboo and rayons are all perfect for the summer season. This season, sustainable and natural weaves are on-trend.
3. The hottest colours for 2019
According to Pantone, the colours to look out for this coming season are shades of apricot and peach. The on-trend colour palette will be quite muted and soft and include shades such as dusky rose, fleshy nudes, oatmeal and sage green.
On the other side of the spectrum, bold colours such as striking blues, corals, purples and citrus will also make an appearance in 2019, too.
4. Bring the outdoors in
Beautiful indoor greenery like palms and ferns will instantly turn your home into a summer haven this season. Freshly cut bunches of flowers will also add a pop of colour. Don’t have a green thumb? Choose low-maintenance plants like succulents, cacti, aloe vera and bamboo.
5. Switch up your home fragrance
If you use beautiful candles or room diffusers to add ambience to your space, switch your spicy or vanilla fragrances for something fresh and light. A more subtle way to add a new scent to your home is to swap out the soap in your kitchen and bathroom for a quick pick-me-up.
Frangipani and coconut are perfect for creating a tropical vibe in your home, whereas crisp citrus scents like bergamot and mandarin are fresh and clean. If you prefer florals, scents like jasmine, tuberose and neroli are perfect.
6. Say it with an accent
If your larger pieces of furniture are neutral, like your dining table, lounge and rug, then you can have fun experimenting with your colour palette each season just by changing smaller accent pieces like cushion covers, tablecloths, throws, photo frames, prints, storage units and vases.
7. Outdoor entertaining space
Summer is a fantastic season jam-packed with festivities and wonderful celebrations, all the way from Christmas and New Year’s to even Mardi Gras, Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year. It’s a great time to get together with friends and loved ones.
If you’re thinking of hosting a barbecue, romantic dinner, evening soiree or chic afternoon tea, why not take the time to style up your alfresco dining area? From vibrant weatherproof cushions and sleek sun lounges to twinkly fairy lights and hurricane lamps, there are some great options to choose from.
